5 Kidnappers Arrested, One Killed In Kaduna

In the early hours of Sunday, Kaduna State Police Command said its officers captured five alleged kidnappers.

Another suspect was slain in a botched kidnapping attempt in Zaria on Monday, according to the command.

ASP Mohammed Jalige, the Command Public Relations Officer, announced the development in a statement issued in Kaduna on Monday.

According to Jalige, on Sept. 26 at around 03:00 hours, the command acted on solid evidence that an 18-seater bus was transporting suspected rustled cows along the Barde–Keffi Road to an unknown location.

“Based on the information, operatives of the command attached to Kafanchan Division swung into action and intercepted the said vehicle and arrested the five suspects.

“Among the suspects arrested is a notorious kidnapper, who has been on the command’s wanted list and the 13 rustled cows were recovered from him,” he added.

The suspects confessed to the crime during the investigation, according to Jalige, while the owner of the animals was identified from Uddah Village and the cattle were given over to him.

The authorities also stopped a kidnapping attempt by one of the criminals, according to the PPRO.

“On Sept. 27, at 03:00hrs the command received a distress call through the Divisional Police Officer, Zaria City that some bandits in large number invaded the residence of one person at Nagoyi Quarters, Zaria in their desperate attempt to kidnap the occupant of the house.

“On getting the information, a team of policemen alongside members of vigilante services led by the DPO rushed to the area and engaged the bandits in a gun duel.

“As a result, one bandit was neutralized while others took to their heels with bullet wounds abandoning their mission,” he explained.

The bandit’s body has been placed at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Teaching Hospital in Shika, he said.

Jalige asked the people to immediately report anyone with a suspected bullet injury to the local police station.
