Abdu Malumfashi Condemns CNG For Calling For Governor Aminu Bello’s Resignation

Abdu Labaran Malumfashi, the Director-General of Media in Katsina State, has criticized the request by the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) for Governor Aminu Bello Masari to resign.

In a press statement made accessible to Daily Post on Saturday, the spokesman, Abdu Malumfashi expressed his displeasure with CNG’s call.

In the statement, he stated that legitimately elected officials, such as Governor Masari, would not be deterred by few self-pleasing unhappy people posing as human rights activists.

According to him, while explaining that the Nigerian Constitution has provided the appropriate mechanisms for removing Governors from office if they are shown to be failing in their duties, he maintained that the state house of assembly is well-versed on what to do if such a situation becomes necessary.

He pointed out that Governor Bello Masari was not the only governor who had made such suggestions, as his colleagues from other states had done so in the past, but that the citizens, aware of the sensitive nature of security issues, did not politicize the demand, but rather rallied around their leaders for admonishing them rather than criticizing them.

The governor’s position as state’s Chief Security Officer is merely ceremonial, as the numerous security chiefs working in the state are subordinate to their Abuja-based superiors, rather than the governors themselves, he explained.

Masari was second to none when it comes to proactive engagement with security agencies in the state,” the governor’s spokesman said.

“The massive increase in the number of security formations in Katsina State and the North West, in general, was due to the dogged commitment and determination of Governor Masari to see to the successful prosecution of the war against banditry,” he said.

“It was this, which persuaded his North West colleagues to make him the chairman of their security committee,” the spokesman stated.
