Abia State Government Strengthens Development Drive, Partners with Railway Corporation on Relocation of Umuahia Station to Modern Bus Terminal

The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to executing impactful projects aimed at improving the lives of its citizens, as it advances plans to relocate the Umuahia Railway Station to the proposed ultra-modern Umuahia Bus Terminal.

During a working visit by a combined team from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and Railway Properties to Government House, Umuahia, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Kenneth Kalu, highlighted the administration’s focused vision under Governor Alex Otti.

He noted that public resources are being strategically deployed to expand the public good, citing ongoing initiatives such as the launch of the Abia Leadership Academy to train young leaders in integrity and moral excellence, massive road rehabilitation projects, and the retrofitting of schools across the state.

Professor Kalu emphasized that the engagement with the NRC team would be sustained to ensure the project’s smooth execution and alignment with the government’s broader developmental agenda.

The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, welcomed the collaboration, expressing confidence that the partnership would produce tangible and far-reaching benefits for Abia residents.

On his part, the Managing Director of Railway Properties, Mr. Timothy Zalanga, acknowledged the strategic importance of the relocation project and assured the state of the corporation’s full support in bringing it to completion. He commended Governor Otti’s developmental strides and stressed that the new transport hub would greatly enhance connectivity and economic activities in the state.

Also speaking, the General Manager of UCDA, Chief Kingsley Agomuo, explained that the visit aligned with the government’s transport infrastructure modernization plans and reaffirmed the administration’s determination to deliver projects that tangibly improve the quality of life for the people of Abia State.

With this collaboration, the Otti-led government moves a step closer to modernizing Abia’s transport network and setting a new benchmark for urban infrastructure in the region.
