Akwa Ibom Police Confirms Senator Nelson Effiong’s Kidnap

Sen. Nelson Effiong, who represented the Eket Senatorial District in the eighth Senate, has been kidnapped, according to the police.

SP Odiko Macdon, the Akwa Ibom Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), told journalists in Uyo on Monday that the senator was abducted in Uyo around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5.

“He was kidnapped by unknown gunmen at a popular drinking spot on Oron Road, Uyo,” he explained.

The command, according to Macdon, would ensure that the criminals were apprehended and that the senator was released.

He stated that the police would utilize all resources at their disposal to achieve the former senator’s release as quickly as possible.

“We have received that sad report of the kidnapped of the Senator.

“The Commissioner of Police Andrew Amiengheme is miffed about it and have promised to spare no resources in ensuring his safe rescue and perpetrators brought to book,” Macdon added.

Sen. Effiong was kidnapped at his home on Oron road in Uyo major town, according to a source who requested anonymity.

Seven persons were critically hurt, he claimed, including the Special Assistant to the Chairman of the House Committee on Information.

The senator was kidnapped by three armed hoodlums at his business club in the evening, according to the source, and taken to an unknown location.

He said, “Eight of the customers at the lounge were injured during a scuffle as they scampered for safety as the gunmen shot sporadically. causing a stampede at the lounge.”

Mr. Paul Ekwere, one of the wounded, who is currently undergoing treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Uyo, claims that the hoodlums broke into the club while they were drinking and shot customers, hurting some of them.

“I was shot at the lounge, I appeal to security agencies to rescue the situation,” he explained.

The incident happened around 10:00 p.m. Sunday, according to Ekwere.

According to him, the abductors attacked the sit-out in a Toyota Camry vehicle and began shooting intermittently, sending customers and other visitors fleeing for safety before heading directly for the senator, according to a source.
