Atleast 4 School Children Killed After Wind Gust Throws Inflatable 30 Feet in the Air

Four children died and five others were taken to the hospital in northwestern Tasmania Australia on December 16, 2021, after they fell from a bounce house that was blown into the air by strong winds.

The grade five and six students fell from a height of about 30 feet after the inflatable was blown into the air at Hillcrest Primary School in Devonport, northwest Tasmania, at around 10 a.m. local time on Thursday. The victims were all in sixth grade and included two boys and two girls.

“These children were meant to celebrate their last day of primary school”, Tasmania Law enforcement Commissioner Darren Hine said: “We are all mourning their loss instead,” says Australia ABC News reported.

The school wanted to celebrate with dancing, games and, out on the big field behind the building, a bouncy castle and giant inflatable Zorb balls.

Police said, “a significant” gust of wind sent it and the Zorb balls flying into the air. Nine students plunged more than 30 feet to the ground.

Ambulances and helicopters rushed to the scene. Some children were treated there, while others were taken to a hospital.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called the incident “shattering” and “unthinkably heartbreaking.”

“Young children on a fun day out, together with their families and it turns to such a horrific tragedy, at this time of year, it just breaks your heart,” he said.

“At this time of year, it just breaks your heart,” Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said of the tragedy.

Of the surviving children, four are in critical condition and the other is in serious condition, according to Tasmanian police commissioner Darren Hine.

The school closed for the day after the incident.

Hhmmm….what a sad thing to happen at a joyous time. Some parents witnessed the horrific scene as they were volunteering at the event. May God comfort the parents of the deceased.

We wish those in the hospital a quick recovery.
