A deputy headteacher and Sunday school teacher; Julie Morris with her boyfriend; David Morris has been jailed for repeatedly raping and abusing a young girl.

The case came to light when police read messages sent to another pedophile.

Julie Morris was a deputy headteacher for a decade and had been going to church for 30 years – but for the last three of those, she had been abusing and raping a young girl to s*xually gratify her boyfriend; David Morris.

According to ‘The Mirror’, the couple who only share a surname by coincidence had met on the Plenty of Fish dating website and quickly started an “intense” s*xual relationship.

In a horrifying case at Liverpool Crown Court, the judge heard how they had begun preying on their victim, grooming her to believe that what they were doing was normal. The offenses are not related in any way to Miss Morris’ place of work. They produced indecent images and videos, s*xually abused and raped the young girl, but were only discovered when another paedophile in contact with David Morris was caught by police in January this year.

Julie Morris was jailed on Wednesday for 13 years while David Morris was sentenced to 16 years, with an extended license period of four years.

Honorary Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary said: “Every now and again you see cases, the circumstances of which are almost beyond belief. This is one of those cases.

“It demonstrates that human depravity really knows no depths.”

The videos showed Julie Morris giggling as the abuse took place, the court heard. The judge was forced to give the maximum credit to their mitigation because they had both admitted to their crimes in police interviews and pleaded guilty.

Senior Crown Prosecutor at the CPS, Mairead Neeson, said: “It was purely by chance that through examination of a completely separate, unrelated person’s mobile phone, they discovered David Morris’ contact details and that he appeared to be exchanging messages and possibly images relating to the abuse of children.

“It’s the worst case that I have seen in my career.

“It was horrendous. At the end of it, I burst into tears. It’s a young child whose innocence has been stolen and been abused. I know that quite a number of the police officers have been really affected, especially the ones who have been watching the videos because they have young children themselves and they cannot understand how anyone can do that.

“She wasn’t just in a position of trust, she was looked up to and respected within the community. Whenever you look at the photographs of her she looks like an attractive normal woman, you would never imagine she could do something like this”.

After securing a job as deputy headteacher at St George’s Central CE primary in 2011, Julie Morris even qualified as a ‘safeguarding leader’ for the school.

Julie is known as a Sunday school teacher at the church where she worshipped for 30 years and regularly led prayers and services there.

Neither she nor her boyfriend had any previous convictions before their campaign of abuse was discovered. The crimes came to light at the start of this year when police raided the home of another paedophile and found communication on his phone with mechanic David Morris, from Eccleston.

After securing a warrant to search his home, they seized his devices and discovered countless videos of himself and Julie abusing their victim. The pair were arrested the following day in a nearby caravan where they were found with £10,000 cash, appearing to prepare to flee the country.

Among the 175,000 pages of WhatsApp messages they recovered from David Morris’ phone, police found sickening messages between the couple discussing their s*xual interest in the girl. As well as sharing their “naughty thoughts” – as David described them in one message – they would also discuss what they wanted to do to the little girl and even contacted the victim directly to tell her what they were planning.

The girl was even added to a WhatsApp group with the couple who exchanged messages of a s*xual nature with her.

In some of the footage, Julie Morris could be heard giggling in the background. Julie Morris had claimed that she had been coerced into helping David to abuse the girl, stating that she feared he would leak naked images he had of her to her friends, family, and colleagues.

But the police and CPS could find no evidence that David Morris had ever made such threats and analysis of the chat logs showed she had been a willing participant in the abuse.

At an earlier hearing in October, where David Morris pleaded guilty to all 34 offenses against him, Julie Morris appeared via video link and wept uncontrollably.

At the time she was not able to enter a plea because she did not have legal aid but at a subsequent hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday, December 22, she pleaded guilty.

In an impact statement given to the court, the father of the victim said he “wanted to kill David Morris” and that his “whole world has come crashing down” after “the unthinkable became a reality”.

Shocked staff at the school where Julie Morris had worked were also completely oblivious to the horrifying secret she was hiding.

No matter how long you commit a crime in the secret, you will definitely get caught one day.
