Doctors Who Treated Diego Maradona Face 25 Years In Prison

Seven Doctors from the medical staff responsible for treating football icon Diego Maradona prior to his passing will face a homicide trial, commencing on Tuesday in Buenos Aires.

They are charged with negligence related to the demise of the World Cup champion in 2020.

Maradona experienced a deadly heart attack at his residence in November of that year, merely two weeks after being discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery for a brain hemorrhage.

His relatives claimed there was negligence, a conspiracy to conceal facts, and disrespectful remarks from the medical team tasked with his care, labeling it a ‘mafia.’

Maradona had battled drug addiction, obesity, and alcoholism for many years, and it’s said he narrowly escaped death in 2000 and 2004.
However, prosecutors believe that, had it not been for the carelessness of his physicians, his death might have been prevented.

Seven of the eight healthcare workers charged in this matter, including Maradona’s neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, and nursing staff, are now being tried for culpable homicide, a charge akin to involuntary manslaughter.

They reject any accusations of misconduct but could be sentenced to as much as 25 years behind bars.

Dalma Maradona, the eldest daughter of the football legend, posted a video with audio she asserts demonstrates significant irregularities in her father’s treatment. She also disclosed that her mother is terrified of the ‘mafia’ who ‘control everything.’

“My mother is worried because she is afraid,” she stated during an appearance on the Angel Responde program on Bondi Live.

“Afraid of the mafia, of those who control everything, have money and power. But I don’t care. I know who I am up against, but I cannot remain silent. We need people to know the truth. My mother tells me all the time ‘shut up, don’t say anything, I’m scared,’ but I can’t. I owe it to him.”

Dalma had earlier been reported to have accused a ‘mafia of assassins’ of being responsible for her father’s death. She alleges there are recordings in existence that substantiate a lack of proper medical care, including discussions about cover-ups and professional negligence, according to the Argentine publication Diario Registrado.

Maradona secured the World Cup title with Argentina in 1986, famously eliminating England in the quarter-final with the notorious ‘Hand of God’ goal and another, later dubbed the ‘Goal of the Century.’

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
