Dowen College Says It Is Open To Investigation Over Sylvester’s Death

Dowen College’s management has stated its willingness to assist the Lagos State Ministry of Education and the Nigerian Police Force in determining the reason for the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old student.

Oromoni’s death was made public after a family member, Perri, shared information about the incident on social media.

A family member said that the Junior Secondary School 2 boy died as a result of injuries incurred during an assault by fellow pupils who sought to introduce him into cultism last week Wednesday.

He stated that before his cousin died, he identified five students who brutalized him for refusing to join a cult, using his Twitter name, @Perrisonoromoni.

The school described the occurrence as a “tragic and unfortunate incident” that occurred in November and stated that Sylvester’s premature death necessitates a full and proper inquiry.

It added that the school’s initial step, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, was to close the school immediately to aid in the inquiry.

The Management expressed their condolences to Sylvester’s family and all those who loved and knew him, describing the tragedy as tragic and unfortunate.

It said, “We are assisting the authorities to get to the bottom of this heartbreaking incident.

“The first steps taken by the school, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, has been the immediate closure of the school to aid in the investigation.

“Understandably, at this time of intense grief and suffering, emotions are raw and
tensions are high.

“We pray that God, who alone knows how to comfort the sorrowing, will comfort
Sylvester’s family and all those who loved and knew him.

“The tragic and unfortunate incident which transpired this past November, and
Sylvester’s untimely death requires a thorough and proper investigation.

“He was dearly loved by his teachers, his fellow students and he was a beacon of light for the school.”
