Emirates Hits Nigeria With Indefinite Flight Ban In Response To Restrictions

Emirates Airlines has halted all flights to Nigeria indefinitely as a result of the Federal Government’s restrictions.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had previously revoked authorization for 21 weekly flights to Nigeria, 14 to Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport, and seven to Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The NCAA Director-General stated that the decision was made in response to the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) refusing to allow Air Peace, the only Nigerian carrier operating to Dubai via Sharjah, three frequencies.

Following the news, Emirates announced on its website that all flights to Nigeria would be canceled until the dispute between the UAE and Nigeria was settled.

The action will begin on Sunday, according to the statement.

The airline said, “With the recently imposed directive limiting Emirates to operate one flight per week to Nigeria via Abuja, Emirates will be suspending its flights between Nigeria and Dubai from 13 December 2021, until the UAE and Nigerian authorities work on a solution to the ongoing issue.

“The last flights to operate on 12 December 2021are EK 783/784 to/from Lagos and EK 785/786 to/from Abuja”, it said.

“Customers holding tickets with the final destinations Lagos and Abuja will not be accepted at the point of origin.

“Affected customers do not need to call us immediately for rebooking. Customers can simply hold on to their Emirates ticket and when flights resume, get in touch with their travel agent or booking office to make new travel plans.

Emirates regrets any inconvenience caused. Emirates is committed to its operations in Nigeria, and we stand ready to reinstate services once restrictions are lifted by the Nigerian authorities, ensuring travelers have more choice and access to trade and tourism opportunities in Dubai, and beyond to our network of over 120 destinations.”

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
