A mining site in the Butura hamlet of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, was attacked by gunmen, resulting in the deaths of four boys. On Friday evening, at around nine o’clock in the evening, the terrorists launched their attack.
Five people were injured and four people were killed on the spot by the gunmen, who were speaking in the Fulani dialect, according to Sabastine Magit, the president of the Butura Youth Movement.
The victims were at work when the shooting occurred. Bwefuk Musa, 21, Klingshak Dickson, 21, Promise Joshua, 20, and Nyam Abaka, 20, were the identities of the deceased that Magit confirmed.
“In yet another unprovoked assault on members of the Butura community, armed terrorists opened fire on innocent youths working at a mining site near the villages of Kuba and Maikatako in Bokkos LGA,” Magit said in a statement on Saturday, October 12.
“This attack occurred just four days after a tragic incident in the village of Wumat, where five members of a family, including a pregnant mother, lost their lives.”
Magit claimed that the attackers escaped before military forces stationed nearby could intervene. This recent attack is part of a worrying pattern, with over 20 members of the Butura village killed in the last month alone, allegedly by Fulani assailants.
The injured individuals are receiving medical attention, and local authorities and security personnel have been notified as tensions in the area remain high following the attack.
