Hulk Hogan was actively involved in shooting a Netflix documentary at the time of his passing.
The wrestling legend passed away earlier this week at the age of 71.
According to CNN, the previously undisclosed project, created in collaboration with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), seeks to document Hogan’s iconic life and career, both inside and outside the wrestling ring. Despite his unexpected death, production is anticipated to move forward, according to sources familiar with the project.
One insider disclosed that the documentary has been in the works since early 2024. More than 20 hours of never-before-seen sit-down interviews with Hogan had already been filmed, alongside 30 hours of additional recorded content. The documentary was being developed with Hogan’s complete involvement.
“People will see a side of him they haven’t seen before,” a source told CNN.
While no release date has been confirmed, the filmmakers are now revising portions of the project in response to Hogan’s passing. Cameras are reportedly set to be present at WWE SmackDown on Friday night to capture a tribute segment.
Born Terry Bollea, Hogan emerged as the face of professional wrestling, playing a key role in turning WWE into a global entertainment powerhouse. His magnetic charm and larger-than-life persona during the 1980s and 1990s established him as one of the most iconic figures in sports entertainment history.
He passed away on Thursday in Clearwater, Florida, following a cardiac arrest. Authorities stated there were no indications of foul play and confirmed that a routine investigation is in progress.
Hogan’s immense success opened doors for other wrestlers, such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena, to transition from the wrestling ring to careers in film and television.
The forthcoming Netflix documentary is being helmed by director Bryan Storkel and produced by Connor Schell’s studio, Words + Pictures, in partnership with WWE. The project was initially reported by Puck.
