Gbenga Kikiowo, a 28-year-old suspected armed robber, has stated that he chose to become an armed robber when he was seven years old in order to command international respect like some infamous notorious robbers in Nigeria.

Kikiowo confessed after being arrested and paraded by Ondo State Police Command officers at the state police headquarters in Akure, the state capital.

According to him, he was apprehended by police while on his way to buy bullets for an operation in the Oke-Aro area of the state with one of his gang members, Tope Aladeloye, 25.

He stated that his goal was to be as well-known as previous notorious armed robbers in the country, such as Ishola Oyenusi, Mufu Olosha Oko, Lawrence Anini, and Shina Rambo, and that he had carried out robbery operations in Ghana, according to the Daily Post.

The suspect began his robbery operation at a young age in his hometown of Igbara-Oke, the headquarters of the state’s Ifedore Local Government Area, and revealed that he had been imprisoned three times because he blamed spiritual attacks for his involvement in social vices.

“I called my partner, who is usually with me during operations. I told him I had a gun, but there was no bullet in it. So he told me to bring the gun down from Ife to Akure, which I did. We were arrested by the Scorpion Squad of the police while on our way to buy the cartridge.

“To be honest, I don’t have any genuine reasons for why I became a criminal because I was born into a very wealthy family. I started stealing from my parents all of a sudden. They believed in traditional customs and practiced them, so the more they used spiritual solutions to stop my criminal act, the more I stole.

“I even traveled to Ghana to rob. After a while, I brought my squad to Nigeria, where we were apprehended during an operation in 2015 and imprisoned in Olokuta.

“Hi, my name is Kikiowo Ayodele. He is a well-liked man in the Igbara-Oke axis, having married six wives and having 24 children. He’s a well-known retired soldier who also happens to be a farmer. He is wealthy in his own ability; he is uneducated, but he believes in his rugged life and farming.

“My last hope was the gun I was caught with because I had decided to leave local crime for bigger ones, such as going international. That’s why I decided to take the risk of looking for a gun. I wanted to be an international armed robber like Mufu Olosha Oko and Oyenusi so that my name would reign supreme. “I believed that it could reign through crime,” he explained.

Kikiowo boasted that if it hadn’t been for the gun, the police would never have arrested him, emphasizing that he preferred to operate through intelligence.

He also stated that he did not go looking for money when he went to steal from his victims, and that he knew exactly where the money was.

“With intelligence, you can operate and do anything, and you will succeed.” Let me assure you that when I enter your room, I am not looking for money. “I smell money,” he declared.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, on May 24, 2021, the command received information from a reliable source about the movement of an armed robbery gang to carry out a robbery operation in Akure metropolis.

According to the police chief, detectives swung into action after receiving the information, and one Kikiowo and Aladeloye were arrested in Oke-Aro, Akure.

“The suspects also admitted to being involved in other robberies in and around Ondo State. “One pump action gun was recovered,” he said.

Kikiowo and the other paraded suspects, according to Salami, will be charged in court soon.
