Chris Oyakhilome, a pastor based in Lagos, has once again sparked controversy by urging his congregation to disregard medical advice against consuming salt.
During his sermon on May 4, Oyakhilome showed his church members documentaries featuring white doctors who refuted claims that salt is harmful to the body.
Emphasizing the points made in the documentaries, Oyakhilome claimed that numerous individuals have succumbed to strokes and other illnesses because they followed their doctors’ recommendations to avoid salt.
“We listen to the so-called professionals, and many have d!ed listening to them. Think how many people have suffered strokes and all kinds of ailments because they listen to their doctor. Think of how many people have been afraid of salt. In fact, they have eliminated salt from their food.
I thought so myself too, but this is why I talk to you about praying in tongues. From praying in tongues, the spirit of God talks and guides me. I speak in tongues, and solutions come.
You have to let others know. You need salt, more salt than less salt. All the sick people being treated in the hospital, they are giving them salt, but they don’t know. They repackage it and sell it to you in different forms.”
He shared anecdotes about how God used salt to heal people and proceeded to read from Mark 9:50, where Jesus stated, “Salt is good,” and encouraged people to have salt and maintain peace with one another.
His sermon has ignited a debate online. While some support his views, others warn that such a message could trigger a medical crisis, as some individuals might disregard their doctors’ advice and begin consuming salt excessively.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
