Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ Set To Come Back For Season 2

Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ Set To Come Back For Season 2

In what’s surely the least surprising news ever announced, Squid Game has now been officially renewed by Netflix for a second season —Hurray!

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk who finally confirmed during a chat with Associated Press that new episodes are coming said:

“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this…(in English) Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.”

The series, starring Lee Jung-Jae, Seong Gi-Hyun, and other ensemble casts, centers on people who are so desperate for money that they agree to participate in a series of school games with a fatal twist.

South Korea’s dystopian survival drama is said to have become Netflix’s biggest TV show ever. With this success, its stars have got global recognition.

Model-turned-actress Jung Ho-yeon has a knack for wandering around in the fashion world. But this time when she flew from Korea to Los Angeles, she met her first fan at the airport, an immigration officer who asked her for an autograph.

Actor Park Hee-soo, who plays Jo Sang-woo in the series, said he made the “big decision” to start an Instagram account.

“Now I really wanted to communicate with the world and everyone, so I started my Instagram account,” Park said.

The lead actor, Lee Jung-jae, has been working in Korea for over 25 years. Now his life has changed because he is also recognized on the streets of America.

“It’s amazing, isn’t it? People just go around and say hello,” Lee said. “So I don’t know how to respond to all the love. It’s great to be able to meet the fans who have loved and watched the show so much.”

It’s everyone’s dream to work in a Hollywood production someday and Jung jokes, “Hey guys, call our agent!”

The writer-director is currently working on a movie, working title KO Club (Killing Old Men Club), about intergenerational war, so there may be a bit of a wait till any second season, even though it’s now been confirmed. Unless, of course, Squid Game season one’s phenomenal international success motivates Hwang to go back to the arena quicker than previously thought. Which would be a very Squid Game thing to happen.

If you haven’t watched the first season of Squid Game, a new thriller that may turn out to be Netflix’s most popular Korean export yet is on the way. Watch out!

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
