New AIG Assumes Duty in Bayelsa’s Zone 16: A Fresh Chapter for Policing

A new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) has taken over the reins at Zone 16 headquarters in Bayelsa State. However, there’s conflicting information on who the new AIG is.

According to Punch Newspapers, Johnson Adenola has assumed duty as the new AIG for Zone 16, which comprises Rivers and Bayelsa states. Adenola, a graduate with a BA (Hons) degree in History and a Master of Public Administration degree, hails from Ipari-nla, Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

On the other hand, other sources, including Gazettengr and Peoples Gazette, report that AIG Adebola Hamzat has been appointed as the new AIG in charge of Zone 16, succeeding AIG Paul Omata, who recently retired.

AIG Hamzat is a seasoned officer with extensive experience, having served as Commissioner of Police in Oyo State and the Border Patrol Force. He holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Ilorin and a PhD in Peace and Development Studies from the same university.

    • Background: Indigene of Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State
    • Education: Degree in Sociology from the University of Ilorin, Master’s degree in Conflict Management & Peace Studies, and PhD in Peace and Development Studies
    • Previous Role: He was in charge of the Counter Terrorism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The new AIGs are expected to bring their expertise and skills to bear in ensuring effective policing in Zone 16, in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s agenda.
