News Presenter Mistakenly Announce Pope’s Death On Live TV

A Newsreader in the UK accidentally announced the death of Pope Francis on Christmas Day in a live television blunder.

But thankfully, the Pope is very much alive and well!

Presenter Kylie Pentelow was reporting on 85-year-old Pope Francis’s annual Christmas Day message from a rain-soaked St Peter’s Square in the Vatican City.

Pentelow then accidentally announced that the religious leader had died – when he is still very much alive – as she discussed his annual Christmas address on Saturday.

However, during the report, some wires were seemingly crossed as she went from the Pope’s comments on Covid vaccines to announcing that he had just died.

She was reporting on the Pope’s call for more people to get vaccinated in the world and vaccine equality across all countries when she made the blunder and said: “He said that vaccines should be made available to those most in need.”

Before adding by mistake: “His death was announced … eh, excuse me.”

Pentelow seemed to recognize her mistake immediately and apologized to the viewers.

However, the error did not go unnoticed and unfortunately for Pentelow the clip soon wound up on social media and prompted a frenzy.

This didn’t go down well with viewers as many took to Twitter to comment on the blunder.

“Someone get this newsreader a drink STAT. We all make mistakes,” one wrote.

“If the pope dies in the next six hours, the police will knock on ITV News’ door…” a third shared, whilst a fourth added: “Just to check, the Pope is all ok, isn’t he?

The Pope – who is 85-years-old – was speaking from the central balcony of St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, as he urged people to unite in both personal and professional relationships.

During his speech, the Argentinians encouraged world leaders to work together to end the pandemic. “Our capacity for social relationships is sorely tried; there is a growing tendency to withdraw, to do it all by ourselves, to stop making an effort to encounter others and do things together,” said Francis.

“On the international level too, there is the risk of avoiding dialogue, the risk that this complex crisis will lead to taking shortcuts rather than setting out on the longer paths of dialogue. Yet only those paths can lead to the resolution of conflicts and lasting benefits for all.”

Needless to say, the Pope is not dead and at the time of writing is alive and well. Our thoughts go out to Pentelow at this time who in all fairness handled the blunder very well.

Today's Quote

“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
