Police Man Arrested For Using Police Computer To Secure Sex With 8-Year-Old Girl

Police Man Arrested For Using Police Computer To Secure Sex With 8-Year-Old Girl

A police detective was arrested and jailed after he used a police station desktop to organize sex with an 8-year-old girl.

Lee Cunliffe, 40, from Bolton, was online chatting with a mother he believed was offering her daughter for sex.

The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) detective constable bragged in the talk about how he would travel to London to sexually abuse the youngster.

But he had no idea that the ‘lady’ he was conversing with was an undercover cop working on a sting operation to catch pedophiles.

Cunliffe, who worked in GMP’s specialized sex crime department, had stopped a probe into a suspected pedophile and saw the seized photographs for his own sexual thrill, according to an investigation.

Cunliffe, a married father of one, has a sexual interest in minors, which was discovered by Metropolitan police after the sting operation in September 2020.

Cunliffe made use of the name ‘Steve S mancgent1’ on the internet chatroom KIK when an officer posing as ‘Mel’ began a discussion with him.

According to Liverpool Crown Court, the detective spoke about Mel’s fake eight-year-old daughter ‘in order to sexually abuse her,’ informing her that he was ‘not simply a fantasist.’

“A fantasist in the pedophile world is someone who would talk about abuse all day long but never actually travel or come out from behind their devices to abuse. The defendant is saying that he is not one of these,” the investigator explained.

Cunliffe, who served in the police force for 17 years, told ‘Mel’ that his work allowed him to ‘travel freely,’ and that he visited London five or six times a year.

He stated he planned to visit the English city for three nights the following month and outlined how he could get the girl to perform sex acts on him over the phone from Swinton police station.

Operation Mosecc, a Met Police operation, established that ‘Steve S’ was actually a serving officer with GMP, provoking a raid on Swinton police station in October 2020.

Cunliffe was detained, and his smartphone was taken away. Officers also investigated his residence, where they discovered evidence of child abuse files on his Toshiba laptop from 2014 to 2018.

Cunliffe also viewed a disc from the police department’s High Tech Crime Unit while off duty in April 2020, according to the investigation findings on his laptop.

Cunliffe had examined more disturbing photographs as part of a 2019 inquiry into a 15-year-old girl, according to another probe.

The kid claimed that her boyfriend had secretly taken and shared a series of images of them having sex.

The boy was detained, and his computer and cellphone were seized for examination.

Cunliffe lied on the crime log, claiming that “there is nothing on either device seized,” and the case was eventually closed.

He informed his superiors that he had attempted but failed to contact the adolescent and her social worker. The suspect was informed that no further action will be taken against him.

However, the court heard that both devices had 227 indecent images and videos of minors on them, with 155 of them being the most serious ‘category A’ images.

The laptop with the obscene photographs was returned to the boyfriend, who could face charges in a different case involving indecent images shared online.

Cunliffe defended himself after his arrest, claiming that despite feeling sexual thrill’ during talks with ‘Mel,’ he would not have committed any abuse.

Judge Andrew Menary QC said to Cunliffe, ‘Although some of these offenses were committed by you in private while off-duty, they are all seriously aggravated by the simple fact that as a police officer the public is entitled to expect you will do all you can and could have done to uphold the criminal law.’

Judge Menary noted that the youngster Cunliffe attempted to arrange for sex was not real, saying, “It’s plain for me that the opportunity for that, had it arisen, then you would have taken it.”

He was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison, and no members of his family were present in court.
