Presidency 2023: Women Should Attempt Taking Power In Nigeria – Emir Of Keffi

HRH Alhaji Shehu Yamusa III, Emir of Keffi, has challenged women to be actively interested in succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, adding he believes they are capable of doing so.

When members of the National Democratic Institute’s International Working Group for the SAGE program visited him in his palace in Keffi on Thursday, the royal father, who is also the Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, said this.

Yamusa III has stated that for the best leaders to arise in Nigeria, Nigerians must remove cultural sentiments from politics, regardless of ethnicity or party allegiance.

“Most importantly, I will like to draw the attention of the entire nation to the fact that culture and politics are two different things.

“We often mistake the two, and that is why most women can’t come out to contest for elective positions. But they are part of us, and we must carry them along.

“Going by their performances in our various houses, I think we should give them a chance in the next general elections. If women can manage families. They can manage the country,” he suggested.

As a result, the monarch emphasized the importance of all political actors respecting women’s participation in the quest for power, stating that “we all have something of value to offer.”

He also stated that women can provide the leadership that Nigeria requires by assisting one another in winning elections in 2023 and guaranteeing efficient resource management and distribution.

Ms. Atifete Jahjaga, the first female President of the Republic of Kosovo (Southeast Europe) and the leader of NDI’s Supporting the Advancement of Gender Equality (SAGE) delegation, emphasized women’s rights to political participation and representation, economic resources, security, and justice.

She also advocated for further effort in Nigeria to make these values a reality.

”We have a mission to support the government and people of Nigeria by contributing to the percentage of women in politics, working in the direction of gender empowerment,” she said.
