Senate Approves N140 Billion Budget for North Central Development Commission

The Senate Committee on North Central Development Commission has approved a whopping N140 billion budget for the commission’s 2025 fiscal year. This approval follows a presentation by the commission’s Managing Director, Tsenyil Yiltsen, who outlined the budget’s allocation.

Budget Breakdown:

  • Capital Expenditure: N100 billion will be dedicated to various projects across the six states in the North Central zone and the Federal Capital Territory. These projects will focus on eight thematic areas, including:
    • Security
    • Agriculture
    • Mining
    • Environmental Protection
    • Education
    • Health
    • Road Construction
  • Recurrent Expenditure: N40 billion will cover overhead and personnel costs, including salaries for 200 proposed staff members pending approval by the Office of the Head of Service.

Next Steps:

The budget will still require final approval from the Senate when it reconvenes from recess on October 7. The North Central Development Commission is expected to utilize the funds judiciously, prioritizing transparency and fairness in regional project distribution.
