Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has requested the Muslim Ummah to keep an eye out for the Dhul-Hijjah new moon beginning off Wednesday.

This was said in a statement released on Tuesday by Professor Sambo Junaidu, the head of the Sultanate Council’s advisory committee on religious affairs.

The announcement informed the Muslim Ummah that the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1443AH would be visible on Wednesday, June 29, which corresponds to the 29th day of Dhul-Qidah.

On Wednesday, he advised Muslims to start watching for the new moon and report any sightings to the closest district or village head so that the Sultan may be informed.

Furthermore, he prayed that Allah would help the Muslim Ummah fulfil its religious obligations.

The Holy Pilgrimage (Hajj) and the Eid Kabir – festival of sacrifice – are held in Dhul-Hijjah, which is the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar.
