The Taliban of Afghanistan has said that social media platform, TikTok, would be banned in the country due to the type of content it promotes.
According to the Taliban’s ministry of telecommunication, the popular app and the online game PUBG will both be outlawed in the nation within the next few weeks.
Speaking to MailOnline, a Taliban Official said, “TikTok has been spreading immoral and non-Islamic content and videos in an Islamic country among the very vulnerable youths of Afghanistan, and we have to block it for the sake of our youths’ future.
“They are just devastating our young people by advertising western lifestyle. We are living in an Islamic country and these platforms have been spreading content against it.
“Facebook is also spreading same kind of content. Our youths are wasting a lot of time on that. It’s our duty to take care of young people,” he said.
The ministry of telecommunication said in a statement that internet service providers have been given the next 30 days as “the deadline” to block TikTok.
The decision was made public by the country’s new leaders after a meeting with security sector representatives and a representative for the Sharia law enforcement agency.
This follows recent restrictions on music, movies, and TV soap operas, during which the Taliban destroyed musical instruments.
