Ukraine And Russia Conduct Another Prisoner Of War Swap

Published on

On Saturday, June 14, Ukraine and Russia conducted their fourth prisoner of war (POW) exchange within a week, as confirmed by both parties, under agreements finalized in Istanbul earlier this month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared on social media that efforts to secure the release of captured Ukrainians from Russian custody are ongoing.

Russia’s defence ministry announced via Telegram that another group of Russian servicemen was brought back from territory controlled by Ukraine. Kyiv also reported receiving 1,200 unidentified bodies from Russia, which Moscow stated were Ukrainian citizens, including military personnel, as part of the same agreement. Ukraine did not specify whether any bodies were sent back to Russia.

Images posted by Zelensky depicted men of various ages, mostly dressed in camouflage and wrapped in Ukrainian flags, some visibly injured or emotional as they reunited with family and fellow soldiers. Moscow’s defence ministry shared footage of Russian POWs, draped in their national flags, chanting and celebrating during their transfer in Belarus.

The exchange took place against the backdrop of intensifying conflict, with Russia dismissing ceasefire proposals and ramping up military operations along the frontline. The northeastern Sumy region, where Russian forces are pushing to establish a buffer zone to protect the Kursk area, experienced heightened combat. Zelensky stated that Russian advances in the region have been stopped and that Ukrainian forces have recaptured one village. He noted that Russia is deploying approximately 53,000 troops in the Sumy offensive.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
