The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) Ilorin Zonal Command said on Tuesday that one Oyedotun Adebayo Adebowale had been convicted of cybercrime.

Justice Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court in Ilorin prosecuted Oyedotun, 19, on a single count charge.

The judge found him guilty of cybercrime and sentenced him to two years in prison with a N300,000 bail option.

Investigations had previously revealed that Oyedotun had about N21 million in his possession, considered to be funds from an illegal operation, as well as a Toyota Camry car acquired in his mother’s name.

He pleaded guilty to the charge laid against him during the trial.

Upon his plea, EFCC Counsel Sesan Ola reviewed the facts of the case and presented the defendant’s extrajudicial statements, iPhone 12 Promax, key and particulars of the Toyota Camry Car recovered from him, and a N350,000 draft, all of which were taken as evidence.

The lawyer urged the court to take judicial notice of the uncontested evidence as well as the legal provisions in order to find the defendant guilty as accused.

The prosecution had effectively proven its case against the defendant, according to Justice Sani.

The judge ruled that the defendant forfeit one iPhone 12 Promax, an HP laptop, a Toyota Camry car, and a N350, 000 draft he acquired as restitution to the Federal Government.
