2027 Coalition: ‘We’ll Take Action Soon’ — PDP Warns Defectors

Published on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a firm caution to members considering defection, stating it will soon implement decisive measures against those conspiring to weaken the party from within.

Addressing the press after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum emphasized the PDP’s unity and strength as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

“If you are a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, we are drawing a line for those who go out to demarket the party. We are watching, and we will take appropriate action at the right time,” Damagum cautioned.

Joined by other NWC members, he brushed aside concerns about internal divisions, asserting that the party remains robust despite obstacles. He encouraged members to remain steadfast and resist influence from external forces.

Damagum also criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of employing intimidation and incentives to attract PDP members. He warned that such strategies would not shape the outcome of future elections.

“To the APC, I send a clear message: you may continue to harass and attempt to lure our members, but the 2027 election will be decided by the Nigerian people, not by your manoeuvres,” he said.

He lambasted the APC-led government for its failure to address critical national challenges such as hunger, insecurity, and the unjust treatment of citizens. “It’s time for you to reflect and correct your ways. The issues of hunger, insecurity, and the arbitrary treatment of Nigerians are overwhelming and unacceptable,” Damagum added.

Reaffirming the PDP’s dedication to democratic principles, he described the party as people-centric, inclusive, and uniquely designed to endure challenging times.

“We are in a democracy, and the voices of the people must be heard. We are not a conquered people. We are law-abiding citizens who deserve to be listened to,” he said.

Damagum urged members to serve as true representatives of the PDP and reflect on its contributions to Nigeria’s progress. While acknowledging that some might be tempted to defect, he expressed confidence in their eventual return.

“There is no party as accommodating as ours. But if they choose to go, I wish them well, though I believe they’ll find their way back,” he said.

The PDP’s upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for July 23–25, is expected to focus heavily on strategies for the 2027 elections.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
