25 People Dead, Others Injured As Gunmen Open Fire During Church In Ondo

Suspected bandits opened fire on parishioners at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in the Owo council area of Ondo State capital today, leaving several people dead.

According to Kehinde Ogunkorode, a member of the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Ondo State’s Owo council area, stated that gunmen suspected of being kidnappers stormed the church, killing at least 25 parishioners.

He stated that a group of five criminals stormed the church during a service and shot congregants.

According to Kehinde “lt was like a movie, they invaded the church and shot indiscriminately. Several people were killed including children and women.

“It was when they wanted to abduct the priest that they threw dynamite into the church.”

Another source verified that at least 25 corpses had been removed from the church, with many more being treated at the Federal Medical Center in Owo.

According to the source, “some gunmen invaded the church during service, opened fire and killed no fewer than 25 members of the church.

“The congregants were caught unaware by the killers. They also used explosives but many were shot.”

Funmi Odunlami, the state police spokesperson, said the command would address the horrible incident later.
