Adamu Habib, a 50-year-old man, was found guilty of stealing two packs of bubble gum and was given a four-month prison term by an Upper Area Court in Karu, Abuja.
The native of Garki village was convicted after pleading guilty to the allegation.
Olarewaju Osho, the prosecutor’s attorney, informed the court that Joseph Sunday, the complainant from the Faxx Supermarket in Abuja, reported the incident to the Durumi Police Station on November 7.
According to Mr. Osho, the offender stole two packs of “Orbit” gum worth N12,840 on October 18.
He claimed that the convict confessed to committing the crime during a routine police interrogation.
He argued that the offence was against Section 287 of the Penal Code.
In a ruling on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, the judge, Ishaq Hassan, offered Mr Adamu a choice of a N10,000 fine and gave him a warning to stop committing offences, according to NAN.
Additionally, the judge mandated that the offender make restitution of N12,840.
