Abia Govt. Bans Styrofoam Packs

Published on

The Abia State Ministry of Environment has prohibited the usage of Styrofoam packs, also known as “take away”.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, the ministry issued a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, stating that the use of the substance is prohibited in the state.

This comes only days after Lagos State prohibited the usage of takeaway packs in the state.

Philemon Ogbonna, who announced the prohibition in Abia State, recommended the public to stop using the packs immediately until further investigations into the product’s threats to public health were completed.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State administration has extended the ban on styrofoam and other disposable plastics for another three weeks.

The new development was confirmed in a statement made by Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

In a message posted last week on his official X Twitter, the commissioner emphasised that the state’s priority is the welfare of its citizens, not the financial profits from styrofoam manufacture.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
