A 32-year-old individual named Anas Dauda, who was captured on a widely shared online clip brandishing an AK-47 assault rifle while uttering intimidating statements, has now been taken into custody by officers from the Adamawa State Police Command.
As detailed in an official announcement issued by the command’s public relations officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the suspect hailing from the Jalingo B neighborhood within Lamorde Ward in Mubi South Local Government Area, could be observed in the footage handling the firearm, which seemed to be equipped with three ammunition clips.
Reports indicate that he purportedly delivered alarming declarations and boasted about his ability to offer the gun for purchase or rental in exchange for a specified sum of cash.
Law enforcement officials noted that the footage, which spread rapidly across various social media platforms, sparked widespread fear and unease throughout the local population.
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer of Mubi South Division to trace and arrest the suspect.
“Police operatives swiftly acted on the directive and apprehended Dauda at a remote location in Mubi town,” the statement read.
At present, the accused remains detained in police holding, with probes continuing to retrieve the specific weapon shown in the recording and to determine where it originated from.
The top police official has instructed the second-in-command overseeing the state criminal investigation unit based in Yola to assume control of the matter, conducting a thorough yet confidential inquiry leading toward formal charges.
