Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been instructed to immediately suspend their eight-month strike and return to the classrooms, according to an order from an Abuja-based Court of Appeal.
The National Industrial Court’s order, directing the lecturers on strike to return to classes, was overturned by the appellate court in response to an application by the lecturers for permission to appeal.
The three-member panel presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, ruled that the union’s request to appeal the National Industrial Court’s order, asking it to call off its strike, will only be granted if the strike is called off.
The court ordered ASUU to submit its notice of appeal within 7 days and to provide proof that all of its members have started working again right away.
