Apple, a major US technology company, is apparently in the race to purchase Manchester United of the Premier League.
United released a statement earlier this week announcing that one of the largest football teams in the world is essentially up for sale.
According to a Daily Star report, Apple, the biggest tech firm in the world, may be interested in buying the club for £5.8 billion.
Although the tech company from California has never before owned a significant sports team, it is believed that United’s commercial prospects are NC the main driver of their interest.
Any potential offer would surpass the £4.25 billion fee a group led by Todd Boehly paid for Chelsea earlier this year to become the most expensive purchase of a football club in history.
CEO Cook is only the most recent in a long list of well-known people who have expressed interest in the leadership of Old Trafford.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has also expressed interest in taking over the organization.
