ASUU Announces Two-Week Nationwide Strike Starting Monday

Published on

The 14-day ultimatum that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had previously given to the Federal Government has ended, and the organization has launched a two-week warning strike nationwide.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Sunday, Professor Chris Piwuna, the president of ASUU, stated that the industrial action will begin as soon as the ultimatum expired at midnight on Sunday.

The warning strike was intended to force the government to uphold unfulfilled promises and solve the ongoing issues that Nigerian public colleges face, he said. In an effort to advocate for the settlement of long-standing problems in the country’s university system, ASUU presented a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government on September 28, 2025.

He declared: “Consequently, all branches of ASUU are hereby directed to withdraw their voices with effect from midnight 12.01 am on Monday 13th October 2025. The warning strike shall be total and comprehensive as agreed at the last NEC meeting.”
