Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, claims that Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP chairman, threatened to quit if he won the presidential primary election.

On September 23, the governor made this statement to the media.

He claimed that during the party’s presidential primary in May of this year, Ayu also urged some aspirants to drop out in favour of Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president.

According to Wike, “There was nothing Ayu didn’t do. Manipulation of delegates list.

“A whole national chairman threatened some of the presidential aspirants at that time that if Wike wins, he was going to resign.

“In fact, he was calling aspirants to withdraw for Atiku Abubakar.”

Wike claimed that Ayu and Atiku agreed that if a Northerner wins the party’s ticket, a Southerner should take over as chairman of the party.

During his media appearance this morning, Governor Wike also disclosed that Ayu is interested in the Secretary to Government of the Federation position should the party win the 2023 presidential election.

He said, “Some people have been given positions as we speak. Ayu wants to become the SFG. These are things happening in the party that we can’t say in public.”

Governor Wike declared on Thursday that despite his disagreements with the party’s leaders, he will not be leaving the party.
