Following Xavi’s dismissal, Barcelona has announced the appointment of Hansi Flick as their new manager.
The club has agreed to a two-year contract with the former manager of Germany and Bayern Munich.
Xavi had declared in January that he would leave his position in the summer, but in April, Barcelona president Joan Laporta persuaded the legendary player to stay.
The former Spanish midfielder angered Laporta last Friday by openly criticising Barcelona’s financial situation, which led to his dismissal.
In the Catalan giants’ season-ending match against Sevilla on Sunday, Xavi led them to a 2-1 victory that guaranteed them a second-place La Liga finish.
Barcelona confirmed Xavi’s departure in a statement on Wednesday afternoon where they “thanked Xavi and the rest of the coaching staff for their commitment, dedication, and generosity, and for their help in reaching an agreement to sever the contract.”
Later, the Catalan giants presented Flick in a video posted to their social media networks, with the German merely saying: “Cules, it is our moment, forza.”
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
