Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was wounded by gunfire on Thursday, in the east of the nation, according to a member of his staff.
The attack took place in Wazirabad, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) from Islamabad, the country’s capital.
A bullet was said to have struck Khan in the shin while he was leading a protest march in Islamabad to call for immediate elections.
Many of Khan’s colleagues were also hurt, according to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party member.
According to reports, one person has been declared dead as a result of the incident.
Asad Umar, a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan told Reuters, “A man opened fire with an automatic weapon. Several people are wounded. Imran Khan is also injured.”
