Martin Keown, a former Arsenal player, called Chelsea’s acquisition of Brighton defender Marc Cucurella a “panic buy.”
This Friday night marks the start of the Premier League, and Chelsea will play Everton.
Martin told White and Jordan, “Chelsea has gone out and paid £60-odd million for Cucurella – I think that’s nonsensical.
“It’s an incredible amount of money. I think it’s too much. Cucurella, as good as he is, I think there are still players out there that are better.
“To pay that kind of money with Ben Chilwell still there, [Marcos] Alonso’s still there. It does feel like it’s panic buying.”
Thomas Tuchel praised Chelsea’s decision to finalize the acquisition of the Spanish left-back, calling it fantastic.
The Spaniard, according to him, can play a variety of positions for Chelsea.
Cucurella’s acquisition by Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion has been officially announced and the 24-year-old is committed to the blues for six years.
