Court Clears Goodluck Jonathan To Contest For Presidency

Published on

Former President Goodluck Jonathan was cleared to run for President in 2023 by a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

The news comes only hours before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary elections, which are set to take place in Abuja on Saturday.

Remember that the former President was recently linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential race after a Fulani group was said to have purchased a N100 million form on his behalf.

However, there have been questions about his eligibility for the 2023 presidential election.

However, the court ruled on Friday that Jonathan, who lost the 2015 election to President Muhammadu Buhari, could still run for the country’s highest political position.

Jonathan’s right to run for president in 2023 cannot be thwarted by any retroactive law, according to the presiding judge, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen, who delivered the ruling on Friday.
