CELEBRATING HOPE AND JOY OF THE GOSPEL

I have always found Jesus’ appearance to Mary Magdalene captivating! Picture this: there stands Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord, right in front of her, and she mistakes him for a gardener who has taken away His body! In today’s gospel story, we witness Mary Magdalene’s heart-wrenching sorrow as she weeps by the tomb, clouded by grief. Even when the angel asks her what she’s searching for, her anguish prevents her from seeing the incredible truth that Jesus is alive! The Master Gardener, the creator of all seeds, plants, flowers, and trees, has risen!

Just like Mary, we often let our worries and distress blind us to the miracles happening right around us. What are we fixating on in our lives? Are we chasing fleeting earthly desires, or are we reaching for the promise of eternal life? What do you hope to encounter when you pray? Our meetings with Jesus should ignite within us a blazing joy to proclaim the gospel boldly and without fear, just as we see in the first reading today. Peter’s sermon, inspired by the Holy Spirit, led to the addition of 3,000 new believers! It’s a reminder that the Acts of the Apostles are truly the actions of the Holy Spirit moving powerfully in the early Christian community. When we call upon the Holy Spirit, He can fuel our passion for sharing the gospel with energy and enthusiasm!

In today’s resurrection account, Christ calls Mary by name! Can you imagine the shock and awe she felt upon realizing it was her Savior? Isaiah 49 promises us that our names are etched on the palm of His hand—He will never forget us! Our names are inscribed in the Book of Life, a profound assurance of His love for each of us personally. Whenever you feel lost, when sorrow blinds you, and life doesn’t go as planned, listen for Him calling your name! See your name engraved on His palm!

When your Fridays feel like crucifixion, and the silence of Saturday stretches endlessly, remember this: Resurrection Sunday is just around the corner, and Christ is truly risen! Alleluia! Let’s celebrate this incredible hope and joy!

May the soul of Pope Francis and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
