The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its intensified operations against armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of firearms, a snatched motorcycle, and other exhibits in separate operations.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the coordinated operations were carried out by different tactical units of the Command in collaboration with local security outfits between 28th September and 1st October 2025

On 1st October 2025, police operatives attached to Nenwe and Owelle-Court Divisions, working alongside members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Forest Guards, arrested one Okonkwo Chukwuebuka, aged 27, for armed robbery.

Ndukwe explained that preliminary investigations revealed that on 30th September 2025, the suspect and his fleeing accomplice boarded a commercial motorcycle in Nenwe community, Aninri Local Government Area, and later robbed the rider at gunpoint.

“They were intercepted while attempting to escape upon sighting security operatives. One cut-to-size gun and the snatched motorcycle were recovered from the suspect,” the statement read.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice, police sources said.

In a separate operation on 28th September 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., operatives of the Command’s Octopus Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Ibe Christian, also aged 27.

A locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol and a dagger were recovered from him.
Police authorities confirmed that discreet investigations are underway to determine the source of the weapon and the suspect’s possible connection to other criminal groups.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded,” Ndukwe stated.

Police Commend Teamwork, Urge Public Cooperation
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, commended the professionalism, dedication, and synergy demonstrated by the police operatives and their local security partners in both operations.

He also called on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to continue providing credible information that will help the police flush out criminal elements in the state.

“We urge members of the public to sustain their cooperation with the Police and other security agencies. Together, we can make Enugu State safer for all,” the Commissioner said.
