Heavy rainfall on Friday has caused flooding in 21 communities across five wards in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, Nigeria. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed this on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
Affected Communities:
21 communities impacted: Including Old Prison, Filin Mashe, Unguwar Makafi, Afghanistan, Tsangaya, Karofi, Bayan Garejin Dan Juma, and others
5 wards affected: Across Potiskum Local Government Area
Displacement and Relief Efforts:
102 households displaced: 612 individuals are currently camped at Sabon Gari Primary School in Potiskum
Relief items provided: Food, shelter, hygiene materials, and medical support have been provided by the Yobe State Government through SEMA
Joint response team: NEMA, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, and humanitarian partners are working together to assess the situation and provide support
Response and Recovery:
Food supplies: Being provided for displaced households
Reintegration efforts: Arrangements are being made to reintegrate the 102 camped households into host communities
Ongoing assessments: The joint response team continues to identify gaps in humanitarian needs to guide further intervention.
