Four Kidnappers Meet Their End In Anambra As Security Agents Raid Notorious Camps

Four suspected kidnappers have been killed and a victim rescued after security operatives stormed a notorious secessionist camp in Awa, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of August 21, 2025, was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) Agunechemba. Acting on credible intelligence, the team launched a coordinated 15-hour raid that brought the criminal hideout to its knees.

Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development, said the operatives freed a kidnapped victim who had been held hostage in the camp despite his family paying a ransom of ₦20 million.

Ikenga stated, “During the fierce gun battle that ensued, four of the criminal elements were neutralized, and the victim was rescued unhurt.”

Items recovered from the camp included two pump-action guns, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, one K2 assault rifle, one locally made hunter gun, a radio transmission box, three locally made Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), two empty gas cylinders, two wraps of cable wires, and three bags of 50kg rice.

Other items seized were a driver’s license, a National Identity Card, a black Lexus RX 350 Jeep with registration number ACA 340 MA, three Toyota Camry cars with registration numbers ABC 268 FQ, EKY 151 CD, and FGG 706 ME, another black Toyota Camry car, five mobile phones (Infinix X6716B, Tecno Spark KL4, and three analogue phones), sleeping materials, one desert boot, one big cooler, and a roll of tarpaulin.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, hailed the joint operation and reassured state residents that the command was determined to remove criminals from their hideouts.

He declared, “The Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring safety and security. Extensive operations are ongoing in the area to track down and arrest other fleeing suspects as well as destroy other criminal camps in the state.”

The police said further updates on the operation would be communicated in due course.
