Fresh Graduate Found Dead After Complaining Of Food Poisoning

Ogunleye Gbenga Moses, a fresh graduate of the Department of Philosophy at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), was discovered dead inside his room in an off-campus hostel.

According to The Nation, the fresh graduate, also known as Pablo, died on Saturday, May 6, 2023, of suspected food poisoning.

The deceased was claimed to be awaiting a call-up letter from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The publication was informed by sources that Gbenga and his girlfriend complained of food sickness on May 5 after eating at an unnamed restaurant in Akungba. They received treatment at the Aduloju Hospital in Iwaro before being released.

“Gbenga and his girlfriend complained of food poisoning after returning from an unknown restaurant. They went to the hospital where they were both treated for typhoid. After the deceased was discharged yesterday, we were made to understand that his girlfriend’s health was critical, and was just discharged this morning (Saturday),” a source narrated.

According to the source, Gbenga was discovered dead inside his room after they broke in since he was not seen in the morning.

“The moment we noticed he was not responding to calls and knocked on his door, we barged into his room through his window around 11:00 am, when we noticed he did not open his door. He is a lovely and entertaining person. Yesterday, we were made to understand that his girlfriend’s health was critical, and was just discharged,” the source added.

Gbenga was not the first person to complain about food poisoning, according to the source, who asked to remain anonymous. A few weeks earlier, a student who consumed poison at an unnamed eatery and only survived by God’s intervention.

Gbenga’s death was confirmed by the dean of Student Affairs, Professor Olusegun Akanbi, who said: “The head of the department of philosophy just called me and it was discovered that he passed on this morning, and his parents had already come,” stated Akanbi.

Victor Akinpelumi, a spokesman for the institution, claimed that an investigation committee had been formed by the organization to ascertain the facts surrounding the occurrence.
