In the early hours of Saturday, gunmen reportedly stormed the Isuofia hamlet in the Aguata Local Government Area, the hometown of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State.

According to sources, a fierce gunfight between the attackers and the soldiers stationed in the neighbourhood claimed the lives of no less than two soldiers and four of the gunmen.

A report claims that the thugs attacked the soldiers at an army checkpoint first, killing two of them, before the soldiers went after them, killing four of the attackers in the process.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the public relations officer for the Anambra State Police Command, and Paul Nwosu, the state’s commissioner for information, have both confirmed the incident in a statement.

Ikenga stated that police officers had been sent to the location and that order had been restored, while Nwosu asked locals to notify security personnel of any security breaches.
