Haaland Sets New Record As Fastest Player To Reach 50 Champions League Goals

Erling Haaland has etched his name in the record books as the quickest player to notch 50 Champions League goals, reaching the milestone in only 49 matches during Manchester City’s 2-0 triumph against Napoli at the Etihad Stadium.

The Norwegian forward broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s earlier record of 62 games, opening the scoring with a commanding header in the 56th minute. Haaland latched onto a delicate lofted pass from Phil Foden, guiding the ball into the corner to give Pep Guardiola’s team the lead.

Ten minutes later, Jeremy Doku secured the victory with an impressive solo effort, weaving into the box before blasting a shot past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

Napoli’s challenge grew tougher after Giovanni Di Lorenzo received a red card in the first half for denying Haaland a clear goalscoring opportunity. Manager Antonio Conte was compelled to adjust tactics, which dampened the emotional return of Kevin De Bruyne to his former club. The Belgian, who rejoined City on a free transfer in the summer, received a warm ovation from home supporters as he entered and later exited the pitch.

City had consistently posed threats before breaking the deadlock, with Tijjani Reijnders and Rodri both eliciting strong saves from Milinkovic-Savic, while Josko Gvardiol’s curling shot veered just wide before the interval. Reijnders also had an imaginative backwards header that landed narrowly off target.

Ultimately, it was Haaland and Doku who delivered the decisive goals to ensure Guardiola’s side a flawless start to their European campaign.

Focus now turns to the Premier League, where City face a significant challenge away to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in what could be a defining encounter in the title race.

A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
