Happy New Year!

Published on

Today marks an intersection of significant observances: the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God (Theotokos), the World Day of Peace, as well as the inaugural day and first Wednesday of the New Year 2025. This day not only heralds the beginning of January but also initiates our first liturgical celebration of the year 2025.

Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

On this day, our Christian practice should emphasize two primary objectives: first, the solemn consecration of the year’s initial fruits to God, and second, a renewed contemplation of the Incarnation of the Son of God, especially in terms of his nativity and the rite of circumcision. The Church calls upon us to align our reverence with the profound devotion that characterized the Glorious Mother of God during these pivotal events.

Consider Mary’s experience—carrying, birthing, and nurturing her divine son. The juxtaposition of her maternal love with the spiritual weight of her role invites deep reflection. Particularly during the circumcision, one can only imagine the blend of reverence and sorrow she might have felt witnessing her son subjected to such a rite. This introspection should lead us to dedicate ourselves wholly to God through Christ, committing without reservation.

World Day of Peace

We must acknowledge that peace cannot stem from worldly sources but should arise solely from the ‘Prince of Peace.’ Through His suffering and sacrifice, Christ unifies disparate peoples. The realization that human efforts alone are insufficient to achieve peace compels us to return back to God and seek divine assistance, embracing the restorative energy of God’s forgiveness that must permeate our interactions. Thus, we confront the fundamental truth: true peace is unattainable without God.

The New Year 2025

As we step into the new year, we are presented with fresh expectations, experiences, and opportunities. Many respond with resolutions aimed at enhancing mental or physical performance. However, we must implore the Heavenly Father to transform our hearts and renew our spirits. A transformative renewal of mind and heart is essential for the Good News to manifest fruitfully in our lives. Adherence to His Word is crucial, as it is through this obedience that we unlock the blessings of peace.

As we embark on this New Year, may the Lord bless you and keep you. May He illuminate His face upon you and extend His graciousness. May He bestow upon you His profound peace.
May this year bring abundant blessings upon us all.

Happy New Year 2025!
