INEC Agrees To Extend PVC Registration, Sets New Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to extend the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise by 60 days in response to public outcry.

In order to allow more Nigerians to register, the House of Representatives had earlier recommended that INEC should extend the deadline for the continuous voter registration by an additional 60 days starting on June 30, 2022.

On Tuesday, the commission gave Nigerians assurances that it would abide by the court’s ruling to continue the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration program beyond June 30.

There have been requests to extend the CVR exercise, which was scheduled to end in June 2022.

The number of persons swarming different voter registration centres across the nation has generally increased.

The electoral board had been ordered by the Federal High Court in Abuja to withhold concluding the process until all eligible voters had been registered.

However, Aishatu Jibril Dukku, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Electoral Matters, informed Legislators during a plenary session on Wednesday that the Commission has decided to extend the CVR to 60 days.

She said, “The Committee held a meeting with INEC yesterday (Tuesday) and they agreed to extend the CVR, all our resolutions were approved.”

In order to accomplish the goal, the House of Representatives also requested that the Commission send out more personnel and registration machines around the country.
