Christ is the Sign and the image of the invisible God but do you truly believe in his power to save you completely? Christ came into the midst of his people with great power and authority to set them free from the yoke of slavery of sin and bring them back to the lovely arms of God our Father but despite all the preaching and miraculous deeds many did not repent and believe in the gospel.
In today’s gospel, Jesus addressed the crowd as they grew bigger saying, “ this is a wicked generation, it is asking for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the great fish’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” In other words, Jesus links his mystery of salvation through His Passion, Death,Burial and Resurrection to how God saved Jonah. Thus, Jonah becomes relevant today since we are called by Christ and preach repentance to all the nations (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47) as we read in Luke 11:30.
Many Christians today are still looking for signs from heaven. Some are running up and down looking for miracle centers while some are yet to believe in the ability of Christ’s power to save. The sign of repentance. The sign of sincere conversion right from the heart. Once we can change as often as we should, things will start turning around for good.
