As a result of an ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governors close to Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, were absent from the party’s formal inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council on Wednesday.

Benue State’s Samuel Ortom, Oyo State’s Seyi Makinde, Enugu State’s Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Abia State’s Okezie Ikpeazu, and Wike himself are among those who were absent from the event.

The inauguration, which took place on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, was also missing a few other stakeholders who are known to be Governor Wike’s loyalists.

The remaining PDP Governors who support Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate, however, were present.

Gov Wike has been calling for the resignation of the PDP’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, saying that the presidential candidate and the party’s chairman cannot both come from the North.
