Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has indicated she might pursue a White House run again in the future.
“I am not done,” Harris stated to the BBC on Saturday, noting she could “possibly” become president someday, her most explicit hint yet that she was contemplating a third attempt at the presidency.
“I have lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones,” she affirmed.
Harris was defeated by Donald Trump in the 2024 election following President Joe Biden’s exit from the race just 107 days before Election Day.
In her memoir about her campaign, titled “107 Days,” Harris had suggested she would not pursue high office in the immediate future, implying that transforming the system from within isn’t feasible.
“I’ll no longer sit in DC in the grandeur of the ceremonial office. I will be with the people, in towns and communities where I can listen to their ideas on how we rebuild trust, empathy, and a government worthy of the ideals of this country,” she wrote.
However, Harris told the BBC her young nieces would witness a female president “within their lifetime for sure.” When asked if it could be her, she responded, “Possibly.”
When questioned about polls indicating she’s an underdog to win a potential Democratic primary, she replied: “There are all kinds of polls that will tell you a variety of things. I’ve never listened to polls.”
“I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she added.
In the memoir, Harris reflected on Biden’s choice to seek re-election and his sudden decision to halt his campaign and endorse her, describing it as “recklessness.”
She wrote that the “stakes were simply too high” to leave it to Biden to make a “personal decision.”
The book also detailed her thought process for selecting a running mate, explaining why several prominent Democrats, including Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, were not chosen for the ticket.
A Gentle Reminder: Every obstacle is a stepping stone, every morning; a chance to go again, and those little steps take you closer to your dream.
