Lionel Messi is apparently planning to return to Barcelona next summer after reaching an “agreement” with the club’s president, following his dramatic departure to France two years ago.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner joined PSG after Barcelona issued a statement announcing he would be departing owing to budgetary constraints imposed by LaLiga.
However, when his contract with the French club expires in the summer of 2023, Messi, who joined PSG in 2021, is reportedly planning to return to Barcelona.
He will return to Barcelona on July 1st, 2023, as a free agent, according to Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati.
After ‘making peace’ with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who was at the center of the dispute two years ago, it is expected that Messi will rejoin the team.
At the age of 16, Messi made his senior team debut for Barcelona in 2004. Since then, he has made 778 appearances and established himself as a key player.
He eventually broke the record for most goals scored by a Barca player with 672, including 120 goals in the Champions League and a record 474 in La Liga.
He said, “With Leo, let’s see, but it’s not the moment to talk about it right now. You know the love I have for him.
“He is a friend and I will always wish him the best. Barca is his home, but we’re not doing him any favours speaking about [his future], either. Let’s leave him in peace to enjoy his time in Paris and wish him all the best.”
