Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, argues that Harry Maguire cannot save his Manchester United career at this point.
According to Carragher, Maguire appears to be a “startled bunny” who should leave Old Trafford and begin a new chapter in his career.
The 29-year-old received boos from England supporters at Wembley before Monday night’s Nations League match against Germany.
In the Germany clash, Maguire caused a penalty and lost the ball which led to a second goal for Germany.
Carragher has questioned Maguire’s ability to maintain composure in the face of scrutiny.
Carragher wrote in his Daily Telegraph column: “My question to Maguire is this: ‘Do you still have that same fury in you?’
“Too often, it looks as if the weight of the world is on his shoulders like he is a startled bunny more than the authoritative centre-back he was.
“I think it is too late at club level. I wrote last year he was fighting for his Manchester United career.
“He needs this to be his final season at Old Trafford and start afresh.”
